Discovering Your Life's Purpose

Hey Goal Crushers and Dream Chasers,
We went over income vehicles recently; these are needed to ensure our needs are met.
Did you know that we have 6 human needs?
Certainty, Variety, Love/Connection, Significance, Growth, and Contribution.
The first 4 are needed for survival, the last 2 are needed for fulfillment.
How does knowing this help with purpose or leverage?
Understanding the 6 Human Needs
In our journey to unlock our life's purpose and leverage our time effectively, it's essential to grasp the six fundamental human needs that shape our lives. These needs are not just abstract concepts; they play a significant role in determining our choices, behavior, and the fulfillment we experience.
1. Certainty:
Positive Example: Certainty is the need for stability and security. Having a steady job, a loving family, and a reliable routine can provide a sense of security and peace.
Negative Example: On the flip side, an excessive need for certainty can lead to resistance to change and risk aversion. Someone might stick to an unfulfilling job or relationship solely because it feels safe, even if it doesn't align with their purpose.
2. Variety:
Positive Example: Variety is the need for excitement, novelty, and adventure. Seeking new experiences, trying new hobbies, or traveling to different places can fulfill this need in a positive way.
Negative Example: When seeking variety in a negative manner, it can lead to excessive impulsivity or a constant pursuit of novelty, which may prevent one from committing to a purpose or long-term goals.
3. Love/Connection:
Positive Example: Love and connection are fulfilled through deep, meaningful relationships with friends, family, or a romantic partner. Sharing love and support with others is a positive way to meet this need.
Negative Example: In a negative context, the need for love and connection can lead to dependence on toxic relationships or seeking validation from others at the expense of one's own purpose and well-being.
4. Significance:
Positive Example: Significance is the desire to feel unique and important. Achieving this through personal achievements, recognition, and making a positive impact in your community aligns with your purpose.
Negative Example: Pursuing significance in a negative way might involve attention-seeking behavior, arrogance, or a constant need for validation, which can hinder genuine personal growth and purpose fulfillment.
5. Growth:
Positive Example: Growth involves the continuous pursuit of self-improvement, learning, and personal development. Embracing challenges and new experiences for self-enhancement aligns with this need.
Negative Example: Avoiding growth and sticking to a stagnant, unchanging routine can hinder personal development and leave one feeling unfulfilled.
6. Contribution:
Positive Example: Contributing to others and the greater good by volunteering, helping those in need, or using your skills to make a positive impact on the world can fulfill the need for contribution and give purpose to your life.
Negative Example: Individuals who contribute to any form of harm, violence, or war machinery, such as the Nazi regime, are fulfilling the need for contribution in a destructive manner. It's essential to recognize that such contributions result in more harm than good, as violence begets violence.
Understanding how these needs operate in our lives can help us make conscious choices that align with our purpose and maximize our time and potential. By meeting these needs in positive ways, we can move closer to a life that's not just about surviving but thriving and achieving our goals.
The Power of Self-Reflection
When one thinks about their needs and how they meet them, you will realize you can meet them in positive, neutral, and negative ways.
We meet these needs through our habits and behavior, do you remember the big picture?
Our habits and behaviors are the brush strokes to reach our vision.
Think about if your habits and behaviors help you reach your purpose, or if they hinder your progress.
Which of the 6 human needs are you meeting through this behavior, and can you change that need to a more positive behavior and benefit?
The Impact of Purpose on Decision Making
Behind negative behavior is positive intention.
We focus on the journey, not the destination.
Part of finding your purpose is adjusting your lifestyle choices.
Clarify Your Values: Start by identifying your core values. What truly matters to you? Knowing your values will serve as a compass for making decisions that align with your purpose.
Set Clear Goals: Define specific and measurable goals that are linked to your purpose. Having clear objectives makes it easier to assess whether a decision supports your purpose.
Create a Decision-Making Framework: Develop a decision-making framework that considers your purpose, values, and goals. This framework can involve a checklist of questions or criteria that a decision must meet.
When one has a purpose to fulfill and desires outside themselves.
Growth and Contribution take the spotlight.
The Benefits of finding your Purpose
When one has purpose or goals to fulfill, they now have good reasons to fix themselves.
The mind is the limit, and our subconscious has a strong effect on our mentality.
Some people make the mistake of reaching their goals and stop growing any further as a human being.
Newsflash: You are either growing or you are dying.
When did you stop wanting more for your life, and have you changed that yet?
Yours in digital success,
Timothy Cortez
